When Mr. Ed Thomas was three years old living in Paterson, N.J; his Daddy played a song named Tossin’ and Turnin’ by Bobby Lewis. Ed enjoyed the song soo much that he repeatedly asked his Daddy to play it again. After the third time, Mr. Thomas showed Ed how to work the turntable to play it for himself. Now little Ed couldn’t read, so he memorized the color & shapes of the label to know which 45 he was looking for. After other 45’s were bought from the same record label, Ed eventually remembered what the letters looked like, learning to read early.

Since then, Ed has been playing records at family functions & as he got older he grew a large Music Collection of Albums & 45’s.

In June 1976, two local guys came to DJ at Mr. Ed’s 8th Grade Graduation Party. They had great equipment but didn’t have all of the latest Music. Ed provided them with what they needed & the Party was a great success. Mr. Ed thought that he would DJ himself for his next party. The Music was there but his father’s home stereo just didn’t deliver the sound like Roy & Roger Williams’ DJ System.

One night in December 1977, just as Ed prepared for bed, Roy came to his house & asked if he would go with him to a party their DJ Company was playing at. Barry’s New Dimensions was owned by Barry Williams the father of Roger (My DJ Partner & Manager), Dwight (He taught me how to work the tables), Bobby, Bridgette, & Grace. Their featured DJ was a friend by the name of Donnie (he later became the DJ for the Sugar Hill Gang). Donnie took Ed’s records & played them getting the party started right. Ed was blown
away by the size of the speakers & the sound that they delivered. It turned out that Barry was an Engineer who built & designed the speakers & amplifier himself; 4 Five foot by three foot woofer enclosures each having two 15 inch woofers mounted at the bottom front of the enclosure & ported at the top, with two Mid-range enclosures, 1 each mounted across 2 of the woofer enclosures. The Tube amplifier delivered over 2,000 watts per channel without ever getting hot. Barry’s New Dimensions used Technique Turntables, a Numark Mixer, & two Soundcraftsmen Equalizers. All very professionally enclosed in a DJ Console also built by Barry. Ed never thought that he would become a part of the crew. DJ’ing mostly for Roger, under the name New Dimension Part 2; named by Ed Thomas.

In 1978, Barry’s New Dimensions partnered with a DJ crew from New York named, The Kaos Disco Brothers. This crew featured DJ’s C.C., Little Rock, & Steal with M.C. Geronimo.

Their show was amazing! They scratched, cut, & mixed only beats. No lyrics were heard as they had two of every record they played & with precision the music was on time, on beat, & non-stop. M.C. Geronimo provided the Rhythmic Rhymes & other crew members provided the Break Dancing.

The DJ’s of The Kaos Disco Brothers didn’t like D.J. Ed hanging around watching their technique.

They thought he was trying to steal their style but D.J. Ed was only interested in learning how to mix, scratch, & cut the records as they did.
The Disco Brothers didn’t play “Radio Music” but D.J. Ed did. This was obvious at the New Year’s Party of 1978 when Ed finally got a chance to perform in front of The Kaos Disco Brothers. Even they never heard anyone mix up “Radio Music” like that. D.J. Ed was the hit of the night.

The Kaos Disco Brothers had a DJ Battle in New York with some other crew called Grand Master Flash & The Furious Five but D.J. Ed didn’t go to check it out.

In 1978 there was a dispute over money between Barry’s New Dimension & The Kaos Disco Brothers and they departed. This left D.J. Ed as the Number One DJ for both Barry’s New Dimensions & New Dimensions Part 2 with Dwight serving as back up for Ed after he was Ed’s teacher at the cut & mix.

Soon after, the Williams family moved to New York & Ed’s DJ career was at a halt.

Then in 1979, Roy found his way back to Ed’s house asking him to be a partner with his company. Roy supplied the sound system & D.J. Ed mixed the cuts from his collection. With his crew Anthony Carswell, Dathren Ruffin, & Gerald Daniel. The short run partnership between Roy & Ed went sour & they departed. Later after that break-up, Roger Williams as the great friend he
always was, brought Ed his speakers & let him have them. Roger also sold Ed a pair of turntables from his brother Bobby.

With this equipment & the help of his friends Anthony “Coz” Carswell a.k.a. D.J. Kool “T” who supplied the mixer, Dathren Ruffin a.k.a. Mellow “D” supplied more music, Pete Rosario a.k.a. Pete Ski who supplied a back-up pair of speakers, Gerald Daniels who supplied the Amplifier, & Ralph the M.C. Ed (D.J. New Rock) formed “The Break Rockers Krew” our motto; “We Rock the Breaks!”

The Krew continued to perform at various functions also partnering with the popular Band The Image of Truth with Levi Little on Bass & vocals also partnering with D.J. New Rock’s cousin Randy Lee & his Crew until 2 Feb. 1981 when Ed Thomas (D.J. New Rock) went off to join the U.S. Air Force.

After leaving all of his equipment with the members of “The Break Rockers Krew”, D.J. New Rock started over collecting his DJ gear piece at a time. Only having his P-Funk Record Collection had to also start over building a Music collection.

In 1983 D.J. New Rock hooked up with Barrey “B-Lee” Board their un-named company performed at the Base Recreational Center @ Carswell A.F.B, Fort Worth, TX. This partnership was cut short because Barrey PCS’d to Nebraska.

Then in 1985, D.J. New Rock hooked up with Charles Chilly “C” Porter & Richard Aguinaga & “The KAOS KREW” A Break Rockers’ Production was formed.

Ed immediately knew that DJ’s would come & go because they were all in the Air Force. So he made sure all partners knew they were members for life & that they could even use the name “THE KAOS KREW” if they wanted but the second part of the name had to be unique to them. In Nebraska, Barrey started “THE KAOS KREW” B-M-B Productions.

Richard Aguinaga’s style of music was basically the same as Chilly C’s, so the decision was made to make The Krew a 2 man partnership. Richard remained friends with The Krew & DJ’d on his own. D.J. New Rock & Chilly “C” traveled over Texas becoming more & more popular, then D.J. New Rock had to go TDY to Mississippi then PCS to Korea in 1987.

“THE KAOS KREW” A Break Rockers Production enjoyed one year playing in 2 Clubs downtown Osan, Korea & Block Parties @ Suwon Air Base. Were D.J. New Rock partnered with D.J. Slick Rick who PCS’d shortly & used the name “THE KAOS KREW”. Once at a Block Party at Suwon Air Base, D.J. New Rock blew the woofers in his Fender Speakers. The Party was saved & continued as D.J. New
Rock connected his JVC Portable Stereo.

In 1988 D.J. New Rock found himself at Ramstein Air Base Germany & things were much different. The DJ’s there had a stage presence with Lights & Props making “THE KAOS KREW” look like a home stereo Krew. D.J. New Rock knew he had to wait until his stage show was right before hitting the main stream, plus his Fenders were Blown. So, D.J. New Rock partnered with D.J. Mix Master “C” of House Party Productions with D.J. E-Z Groove (Al Simmons of Paterson, NJ). At the same time D.J. New Rock performed for the Youth Center’s Lock-In All Night Parties. D.J. New Rock’s cousin @ Randy Lee was also in Germany but was at this time out of the DJ Business.

In 1989, D.J. New Rock retired his Album collection & replaced it with CD’s, he played with two JVC home stereo CD Players. Shortly he was again joined with D.J. Barrey B. Together their stage presence was up there with the Big Boys, complete with Lights & Props. They began to travel & Rock the Parties as “THE KAOS KREW” featuring D.J. B-Bop & D.J. New Rock until August 1991 when D.J. New Rock left Germany & got out of the Air Force October 1991.

After his experience in Germany, D.J. New Rock knew of the importance of totally being equipped to service the customer. A Professional brings with him everything needed to service the customer, even his own tables if needed. Asking
nothing from the customer but space & electricity.

In October 1991, while in New Jersey, D.J. New Rock purchased a Numark Dual CD Player, replacing the two JVC CD Players. After returning to Fort Worth, Texas, D.J. New Rock partnered with Michael “ICEE Mike” Stevenson in 1992 and added Harrio Bilbrew as a Roadie who was later cut.

D.J. New Rock took his business seriously & to higher heights. He had the stage presence, with Lights & Props, a Tuxedo, a Business Plan, a Computer, Yellow Page Ad, Business Bank Account, Office Max Account, P.O. Box, two Websites, a Mobile Phone, Magnetic Signs on his Ford Aerostar Van, & everything needed to run a successful Mobile DJ Business. D.J. New Rock cut “ICEE” Mike Stevenson in 1999, becoming a one man Krew.

Then in 2000, D.J. New Rock changed the company name & dropped the name D.J. New Rock, going by Mr. Ed Thomas of Gospel Entertainment.

Performing mostly for Weddings in a Tuxedo with a great Stage Presence, Cordless Mic, Digital Sound System, & Professionalism all learned in 30 years of experience; Mr. Ed Thomas is still cuttin’ & mixin’ at each Gospel Entertainment Event & serving as the Events’ M.C, Wedding Coordinator, Prayer Warrior, & Disc Jockey to ensure the Customers’ Event is an experience most memorable & a great success!
